Shiela Anderson

Sheila Anderson has been in and around the jazz scene since 1986. She began listening to jazz when she was seven. The music of Miles Davis (ESP), Richard 'Groove' Holmes, Duke Ellington with Johnny Hodges, and many others filled her home in Buffalo, NY. Since 1980 she has resided in New York City. She came to WBGO in 1985 as a volunteer and as a member and has been the host of Sunday Morning Harmony (6:00 AM - 10:00 AM) since 1995. Listenership has greatly increased since Sheila began hosting the show. SMH features straight-ahead jazz without horns. "The show requires a lot of preparation," Sheila notes. "In addition to reading, I often visit jazz clubs to hear and to speak to the musicians that I present each week. The show's limitation of basically piano and guitar, or, as I say, 'jazz without horns' is a challenge that propels me to continuously do research to make the show as interesting as I can." Sheila worked for sixteen years in the publishing industry as a book production manager and a field sales representative. Recently, she joined the staff of the Newark Museum as Public Programs Manager. In March, 2003, her first book will be published for Allworth Press, called The Quotable Musician (click image at left). This is a book of quotes about all music, from the classics to the contemporary, from Mozart to Tupac Shakur. Excerpts will be published on this website soon. She is trained in Classical Flute and is a graduate of Bernard M. Baruch College (BA in English and Business).
