Two Cover Letters - One For Pro, one for Beginner

Mr. Samuel Johnson, Program Director
Radio Station WBSS
10 Boyleston Street
Boston, MA 17171

Dear Mr. Johnson:

As my resume indicates, I have ten years experience in Talk Radio. Please note from the enclosed Arbitron for Providence, RI, Spring 2002, my station, WNBA, had a 3.2 share, and my show enjoyed a 3.6

Prior to being with WNBA, I spent three years with WMSS, Springfield, MA. Enclosed please find a letter of recommendation from Hal Smith, General Manager of the staion. Also enclosed are the ratings for that station, and you will note that my numbers equalled those of the station overall.

Your Classified ad stated that you are looking for a liberal Talk Host who is an entertainer as well as a broadcaster. That description seems to have been written with me in mind. Additionally, I am a Massachusetts native, I know Boston and your listening area, very well. I would hit the ground running, not having to learn about the area.

Please listen and enjoy the ten minute audio tape I have enclosed. I look forward to hearing from, and hopefully, meeting you.

Sincerely

Second Letter

Mr. Robert Smith
Program Director,WCCC Radio
21 Chippiqua Lane
Sioux City Iowa 19191

Dear Mr Smith:

Your ad in Broadcasting, Jan 22, 2004, stated that newcomers were welcome to apply. As a recent graduate of Rutgers University in NJ, and the Jack Ellery School of Broadcasting in New York, I now take advantage of that.

I have the usual requisites. My voice is strong, my knowledge of AC music is large, I speak well, and I have a degree in communications from Rutgers.

While at Rutgers, I worked for four years at WRUS, the university station. I started as a dj and ended as the Program Director.

My grades were such at the Jack Ellery School of Broadcasting, that I graduated first in the class, and received a letter of commendation from the Director. I am very proficient, not only on-air, but also in digital production, and use of music programming software. Additionally, my expertise in newscasting is at a level that makes me wonder if I should pursue a job in that field.

However, being an On-Air personality is my first quest. Please enjoy my MP3.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration -

Sincerely

The reason these are well written - They give the PD everything he needs

The letters tell him him where they have been, how well they did, and what superiors thought of them. It lets the PD know that he won't be wasting time considering them. They both are qualified at the positions for which they apply.

The letters are intelligent, concise, and say what has to be said. They are pleasant in tone, yet are not apologetic or weak.
